United States Magistrate Judge Selection Committee
Member of Selection Committee to recommend candidates for selection as United State Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of Alabama.

Member of Transition Team for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). Ms. Battle helped to develop an executive summary for the White House and recommended names for appointment to the Board of Directors.  She served as an adviser to the LSC newly confirmed Board on its LSC Presidential Search Committee.

American Bar Association (ABA), Chicago, Illinois
Member, Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary.  Ms. Battle was appointed by the ABA President as the Eleventh Circuit representative to the Standing Committee (2003-2005). The Standing Committee submitted peer review ratings of Federal judicial nominees by President George W.  Bush to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.

Peer Review of Federal Judges.  Ms. Battle personally conducted background investigations on Eleventh Circuit nominees to federal courts in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. This included her peer review of Federal judges now on the district bench in the Northern, Middle, and Southern districts of Alabama.

Peer Review of Chief Justice John G. Roberts. Ms. Battle personally conducted the investigation in the Eleventh Circuit of Chief Justice John Roberts for his nomination to the United States Supreme Court.

Chair, Council on Race and Ethnic Justice (COREJ). Ms. Battle served as Chair of two national conferences in Los Angeles (1999), and Baltimore (2002), convening State and Federal Judges, Law Professors, Prosecutors, Mayors, Police Chiefs, as well as university students to discuss the state of the justice system in addressing ways to increase diversity in decision making in the justice system.

Presidential Appointee, Legal Services Corporation, Washington, DC
Appointed in 1993 and 1995 by President Clinton and confirmed by the United States Senate to the eleven-member bi-partisan Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC).  LSC is a non-profit federally-funded entity that provides grants to civil legal services programs to serve low income families.  The Board successfully led the effort to have Congress continue federal funding for Legal Services programs.

Chair, Operations and Regulations Committee (1993-2000).  Ms. Battle presided over the notice and comment process of promulgating regulations to implement Congressional appropriations that significantly restricted the use of federal funds in legal services programs.  This effort resulted in revamping the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) framework for LSC.  She was a member of the Finance and Appropriations Committee (2000).

Vice-Chair of the Board (2001).  Ms. Battle twice Chaired the Performance Review Committee (2001, 2002).  She continued to serve on the Board during the Bush Administration (2002-2003).

National and Local involvement with the United Methodist Church
Elected by the Council of Bishops in the United Methodist Church to the Board of Directors of the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA). GCFA is the administrative body responsible for oversight of the $400 million World Service Dollar.  (2000-2004)

Chair, Committee on Legal Responsibilities (2000-2004). This Committee provided oversight for litigation involving the United Methodist Church. In addition the Committed determined when the Church would join in amicus briefs before the United States Supreme Court on Church/State issues.

Vice-Chair, Financial Services Committee (1996-2000).  This Committee reviewed and recommended budgets to GCFA for all general agencies receiving general church funds.  She served as a member of the Audit and Review Committee (1992-2000).  This Committee retained the outside auditors for the Church, reviewed and approved audits of all general agencies and entities receiving general church funds.

Member, Board of Ordained Ministry, North Alabama Conference, United Methodist Church (2005-2007). The Board of Ordained Ministry exercises the credentialing procedures for consecration, ordination, and licensing to recommend candidates for full connection in the North Alabama Conference.
